Saving recipes

How do I save a recipe from a website?

Tap + on the Recipes tab, paste the link and tap Import recipe. Crumbs brings in the title, ingredients, steps and photo, and lets you check it over before saving.

Can I save from Pinterest?

Yes. Paste the pin’s link (including short pin.it links). Crumbs follows the pin to the recipe site it links to and imports from there. If a pin was uploaded without a link, copy the recipe text from the pin and use Paste recipe text.

It says the site “doesn’t let apps read its pages”

Some sites block apps. Tap Open in browser: the page opens inside Crumbs. Scroll to the recipe if you need to, then tap Save. If that doesn’t work either, select the recipe text on the page, copy it, and use Paste recipe text.

Can I save from Instagram, Facebook or TikTok?

Copy the post’s caption and use Paste recipe text. Crumbs can’t read recipes that are only spoken in a video.

Scanning recipe cards

• Use bright, even light and hold the phone straight above the card.
• For a recipe that runs over several pages or both sides of a card, add up to 4 pages.
• Handwriting works, but cards with two columns may need a little tidying on the review screen before you save.

Moving from another app

Paprika

In Paprika, export your recipes in Paprika format and save the .paprikarecipes file to Files. In Crumbs, go to Settings → Restore or import and choose the file.

Recipe Keeper

In Recipe Keeper, make a backup or export (a .zip file) and save it to Files. No need to unzip it. Then choose it in Settings → Restore or import.

Anything else

Crumbs can also read recipe web pages saved as .html, and plain .txt files.

Backups and new phones

Your recipes live on your device, so make a backup now and then: Settings → Back up my recipes, then save the file to iCloud Drive. On a new phone, install Crumbs, go to Settings → Restore or import and pick that file. Photos are included.

When restoring, Add recipes I don’t have keeps everything already on the phone; Replace everything makes the phone match the backup exactly.

Cooking

My timer didn’t ring when the phone was locked

Crumbs needs permission to send notifications. Open the iPhone Settings app → Notifications → Crumbs and turn on Allow Notifications and Sounds. Also check that the ringer isn’t silenced if you want the chime.

Crumbs Pro

What’s free?

Every feature, for up to 25 recipes. The sample recipes don’t count. Crumbs Pro is a one-time purchase that removes the limit. There’s no subscription.

I bought Pro but it’s locked

Go to Settings → Restore purchase, signed in with the same Apple ID you bought it with. Pro also works for up to 6 family members with Family Sharing.

Refunds

Purchases go through Apple, so refunds do too: visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

Do I lose recipes if I don’t buy Pro?

Never. Recipes you’ve saved always stay, and you can view, edit and cook all of them.
